Helicoil Wire Threaded Inserts are novel and indispencible thread fastening system, provide simple and cost saving for repairing or creating stronger threads. Inserts are precision formed screw thread coils which, when installed into Wire Thread tapped holes, provide permanent and wear resistant thread in parent material i.e. generally stronger than the original thread. The inserts are designed to be greater in diameter than the tapped hole and compress as they are installed. This allows maximum surface contact area with the tapped thread, permanently anchoring the inserts into the place.
The inserts action shares the load over the entire bolt and hole increasing holding or pull out strength. With a Wire Thread Insert in place, load and stress are evenly distributed.

Available for all sizes and types of insert, manual tang break punches are the simplest and most commonly used type of tang break-off tool. A sharp blow with a small hammer is normally sufficient for consistent de-tanging of fitted inserts with this type of tool.

By maintaining downwards pressure on extracting tool whilst turning anti-clockwise, an insert can be simply unwound from the tapped hole. It is most often necessary to strike the top of extractor tool to ensure blade/faces bite into the top coil of insert - or simply cut a small notch into top coil using a Swiss file to engage extractor blade.
Should inserts need to be removed, the use of the Gripcoil extracting tools is recommended. Extraction Tools are simple and easy to use. As correct positioning will make the extraction easier, the tool should be turned 90 degree from the start of the coil allowing easy winding out of the insert. If the exatraction tool is not gripping the insert, the edges can be resharpened.

Available in three different styles they can be used individually or in combinations dependant upon application.
- Roughing Tap: Undersize in diameter, they provide a pre-prepared tapped hole prior to finish or bottom tapping ensuring greater life of second tap. They are particularly useful for course pitch threads or for tough materials.Finishing Tap: Provides full diameter thread and has 3.5 taper leads-finishing taps are the most commonly used tap and are generally used in a single operation.
- Bottoming Tap: Provides full diameter thread to the bottom of blind holes since the tap has only 1.5 lead threads. Bottoming tap is usually used in conjunction with roughing tap.
